Gwyn Williams appointed Chief Executive of Barcud in Caernarfon
Barcud Derwen, the largest film and television company outside London in the U.K. has appointed Gwyn Williams as its Chief Executive in its Company in Caernarfon. Gwyn is currently a Director of the production company, Cwmni Da which also has its offices in Caernarfon. He will commence his duties on March 1st.
Gwyn will be working closely with Tudor Roberts, Barcud’s Managing Director who will remain responsible for all the technical aspects of the Company and will remain on Barcud Derwen’s Group Board.
Gwyn’s main responsibility will be to create a close relationship with producers wishing to use Barcud Derwen’s facilities especially to generate an interest in the facilities of the Company in Caernarfon. This will include creating a relationship with the BBC in light of their proposed move to Manchester and to look for new markets that the Company could develop into especially in North Wales. He will also be on the Group’s Board.
Bryn Roberts, Barcud Derwen’s Group Managing Director said, ‘I am glad to announce that Gwyn Williams is joining Barcud in Caernarfon. It is a time of change in our industry – an exciting time where it will be necessary for production and facility companies to work hand in hand. With Gwyn’s experience as a producer he is very aware of production needs’.
Tudor Roberts added ‘We have worked closely with Gwyn in the past and it will be great to c-develop Barcud with Gwyn as part of the management team. The Company is 25 years old this year and by appointing Gwyn it shows our commitment to the industry in North Wales’.
Gwyn Williams is looking forward to the challenge, ‘I have always had a huge respect for Barcud’ he said. ‘The Company is a mainstay of the industry in Caernarfon. We now need to create partnerships to move the Company and the media industry, in the wider sense of the word, forward to ensure there is a future in this field in North Wales’.
Gwyn started his career as a researcher with Radio Cymru. After a period as a reporter and a freelance presenter he joined the BBC Wales’ newsroom in 1986. He then worked for Hel Straeon in Caernarfon between 1988 and 1990 before setting up his own production company – FiTi-TiFi. In 1987 the Company amalgamated with two other companies to form Cwmni Da.
Recently Gwyn produced for the live transmission of the Snowdon Race and he was responsible for co-ordinating the transmissions of the Denbighshire Urdd Eisteddfod 2006.
